Progress report from Cenfura South Africa microgrid site – Malachite Mews

Cenfura’s South African microgrid project at Malachite Mews is progressing smoothly now that some of the COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to be lifted. As of June 1st, South Africa moved to Level 3 restrictions, allowing our workmen to begin real construction and progress the journey for Malachite Mews residents to have both cleaner and more reliable energy.

Malachite Mews is a residential gated complex in the province of Guateng near Johannesburg.  It has been traditionally connected to the Escom grid, but because of the locality and the general power situation in SA there have been blackouts and unreliability in supply. The Cenfura microgrid aims to correct these issues via a rooftop solar + battery storage solution.

The microgrid offers reliable energy supply to the complex security, lessening resident safety concerns and easing the stress on the current security operations.

“We are pleased with progress despite the delays enforced upon us due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions” said Lauri Bäckman, Project Manager for the Malachite Mews project. “While we want to proceed as fast as possible, we must continue to keep our staff and customers safe”.

Cenfura aims to have the project online in August 2020, with a second project in the Guateng province to be online soon after.

About Cenfura

Cenfura was established with one goal – to accelerate the adoption of fully distributed renewable energy across the globe. The desire for clean, local renewable energy requires a radical transformation and decentralization of the world’s energy systems. As an independent power producer, Cenfura’s role will be to lead this transition by implementing systems and operating assets in the world’s next generation energy systems.

Cenfura Platform, a new blockchain-based system for deploying Community Energy solutions. The core of the platform is a distributed architecture that tightly integrates state-of-the-art energy production, distribution, control, and trading technologies.
